“Being able to analyze invoices by varietal or vendor right away has helped optimize our mix of contracted vs spot purchasing,” Weber says. This flexibility addressed supply uncertainties amidst industrywide trucking delays. It also aided forecasting for long-term bulk purchases. “The cost savings we’ve achieved more than paid for the system within a year.”

Accelerated financial management

By centralizing information in the cloud, SMEs improve financial oversight and reporting capabilities. This supports more agile decision-making overall.

Baker Technologies designs security systems for small businesses on tight 90-day payment cycles. “With projects happening simultaneously worldwide, it was nearly impossible to track budget variances or ensure on-time client billings manually,” notes CFO Chris Lee. Since switching to a subscription ERP in 2019, Lee slashed month-end closing from four weeks to just five days.

“I can now model ‘what-if’ scenarios in real-time. If a project starts going over budget, we catch it immediately to take corrective action,” Lee explains. The insights even helped Baker improve cash flow by renegotiating payment schedules upfront on larger contracts. Lee estimates the ERP has driven a 15% increase in annual profitability for the 25-person firm.
